Aldon horse trials 22nd March 2015

What a great start to the eventing season!!

It was a little misty on our early arrival at Aldon horse trials, but when the sun came out mid morning the show ground looked a picture.

The ground was perfect for the horses, and because the xc at Aldon is set mostly within a bowl shaped area, the viewing is always fantastic for owners and the public, so it was shaping up for a good day for everyone!

I had three rides all of which we’re competing in the BE 100 classes.

Midnight Ash, Kelsons Limited Edition, and The Night Traveller.

Midnight Ash was a little tense doing his first dressage test of the year.  His canter and walk work were lovely, but with his slight lack of strength still since retraining as a racehorse, unfortunately effected his trot which lost us a few marks.  He jumped a superb show jump round and I schooled him gently around the xc for what was a nice and easy introduction for him for the forth coming season.

Kelsons Limited Edition produced a forward and flowing test which gained him a competetive 28.3.

He followed this up with a clear show jumping round and an awesome xc clear.  He felt full of scope both in the jumping and the galloping which I’m hugely excited about as he travels up the grades.

This result gave him a very respectable 6th placed rosette.

The Night Traveller pulled off another polished performance!

He performed a rhythmical and consistant dressage test earning him a super score of 25.

He showed his experience in the show jumping where he just cantered around for an effortless clear.

Our plan was to go nice and steady around the xc for his first run so he added 1.2 time penalties to his final score finishing him in 2nd place.

So pleased that all of the horses jumped double clears.  This sets them all up well for their next competition which will be at Portman horse trials at Novice level.

Its a new course at Portman so I’m really looking forward to it!
